The Spina 2 Media Village in Torino is one of the accommodation facilities for journalists in support of the staging of the XX Olympic Winter Games Torino 2006. The area of intervention, previously occupied by abandoned industrial buildings is concentrated in a section of the block between Via Borsellino, Via Vochieri, Via Ferrero and Corso Ferrucci.
The plan’s objective is to implement the dual purpose of a Media Village during the Olympic period and a university residence after the Olympics with the construction of buildings in an area adjacent to where the Polytechnic is being enlarged. The intervention will make available an accommodation facility with features similar to a three-star hotel to accommodate 404 journalists.
The construction of four buildings is planned. The two buildings facing Via Vochieri are 6 storeys high while the other two buildings both have 10 storeys. The main orientation of the various sections of the building corresponds longitudinally to the east/west axis. The majority of services common to all the residents are concentrated on the first floor (second above ground), divided in the different buildings that, on this level, are connected to one another by covered terraces that provide continuous communication accessible to all guests. These functions include: a restaurant with kitchen and related service area, a study/computer area (equipped with an audiovisual room), a TV/conference room, a gym and a games room.
Rooms for guests are located on the upper floors of the building that can accommodate a total of 404 people, divided as follows: 296 in single rooms (equal to 73% of the total), 20 in single rooms for the disabled (equal to 5% of the total), and 88 in double rooms (equal to 22%).
An underground parking area is planned in the building made up of two floors with a total capacity of 150 parking places (including 10 for the disabled), in addition to several places for motorcycles and/or bicycles.
