The planned work is almost all concentrated in the section of the SS 589 located in the population centres of the Municipality of Cavour. The purpose is to upgrade the existing road network in order to alleviate critical traffic situations in the population centres and, in particular,

• Environmental pollution (noise, vibrations, exhaust fumes, etc.).
• Travelling time
• Traffic congestion during rush hours
• Accident rate
• Risk for pedestrians in the population centres

The area of intervention extends along the axis of the national road (to the north towards Pinerolo) starting from the beginning of the populated area near the entry to the existing pedestrian road and terminates (to the south towards Saluzzo) at the parking area of the Abbey of Santa Maria just after the intersection with the SP 151 towards Villafranca P.te. All the interventions will be carried out on the existing road surface. The interconnection between the route of the SS 589 and the existing secondary road network of the SP 151 will be achieved with a roundabout junction located practically in axis to the geometrical intersection of the SS 589 and SP 151. The total length of the sections concerned by the plan is divided into:

• About 750m of existing section to be upgraded and made safe (section of via Saluzzo)
• About 1800m of existing section to be upgraded and made safe (section of via Pinerolo)
• About 360m of bicycle lanes (section of via Saluzzo) that from the Municipal Road of the Abbey, crossing the intersection with the SP 151, reaches via San Sebastiano where it continues in the bicycle circuit of the Rocca di Cavour Park.
• A roundabout that replaces the current intersection of the SS 589 of the Avigliana Lakes with the SP 151, linking Cavour with Villafranca.
