The road intervention in Avigliana is part of the overall renovation of an important communications artery, which intercepts several long-distance roads [motorway, national and regional roads], connecting Torino directly with the Olympic mountain areas. The route, about 4 Km long, is characterised by the completion of the junction of the existing A32 motorway, by a connecting roundabout with the National Road 25, by a 105m underpass of the Torino-Modane railway connection to France, by a natural tunnel of 570m, by an important roundabout junction on the artery that connects a provincial road with a municipal road, by a second natural tunnel about 1900m long and by a roundabout junction connecting the SS589, located between the two lakes located in the outskirts of the city. Implementation of corrective safety measures is also planned on the provincial road. 190 inside the Avigliana Park and the construction of two roundabouts in Avigliana and Bottigliera (SP 186). The section of the alternative route is that of the extra-urban road with two 3.75m lanes and two 1.50m shoulders. The elements along the edge of the section in relief are made up of grassy embankments with a minimum width of 75 cm connected to the slope with a 66 percent gradient. The main road structures included along the alternative route include:

  1. The underpass, made up of a box-like construction in reinforced concrete, under the S.S. 25 and the already mentioned Torino-Modane Railway.
  2. The two tunnels are naturally constructed, using two different types of structures: One stabilised in a calotte made up of tubes with valves and stabilization on the front in fibreglass and one stabilised in a calotte with tubes with valves and with earth columns consolidated by jet grouting.

Both types include a metallic centring, execution of fibre reinforced Spritz concrete, execution of a tunnel invert, and covering in reinforced concrete. The reinforcement for part of the tunnel is extended to the entire calotte. The entries to the tunnels are constructed with a frontal tympanum, connected to the slope in slight superelevation with respect to the back of the covering. The section of the road after the first tunnel (Via Antica di Francia) of the alternative route is planned partly entrenched and partly on a slight rise, up to the entry of the second tunnel (Mount Cuneo). Particular attention is paid to the passage of the alternative route in the territory surrounding the towns of Avigliana and Bottigliera. In fact, in addition to constructing 70% of the route in tunnels, important alleviation works are planned for the purpose of further reducing the environmental impact in several particularly valued areas, with the aim of upgrading and organising them.
